What Does FreeRateUpdate Do With My Information?
When you ask for rates, FreeRateUpdate uses the details you share, such as your name, contact information, the property and your loan goals, to connect you with lenders and brokers in its network who can offer you a loan. Those lenders and brokers then contact you directly. You stay in control: you can stop texts, calls and emails at any time, and some states give you added rights over your data.
Last updated November 1, 2026What do you collect, and who sees it?
On a rate request you share your name, email, address, phone number, the type of home, estimated details such as your mortgage balance and credit score, and military status. What you type in the chat is collected too, and the site uses visit-recording and analytics tools that capture how pages are used, like clicks and form entries.
That information goes to the lenders and brokers matched to your request, and to vendors who run the site, such as email, hosting and verification services. Lenders and brokers who receive it keep and use it under their own privacy policies, even if you don't take a loan from them.
Do you sell my information?
Connecting you with lenders and brokers is how the service works, so the details you submit are shared with them. FreeRateUpdate's privacy policy also explains that some state privacy laws treat advertising cookies on the site as a sale of data. Your choices about the details you submit are in FreeRateUpdate's U.S. Consumer Privacy Notice, the GLBA Policy link at the bottom of each page. To opt out of the cookie sale, use the Privacy Preferences link there, or turn on the Global Privacy Control setting in your browser, which the site honors.
Will other companies call me, and how do I stop it?
The lenders and brokers matched to your request may call, text or email you, and you can tell each one to stop. To stop messages from FreeRateUpdate itself:
It depends on your situation:
- You're getting texts: reply STOP.
- You're getting calls: ask to be put on the Do Not Call list.
- You're getting emails: use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any email.
- You want to see, correct or delete your information: use the Privacy Preferences form or write to [email protected]. California residents have specific rights to know, correct and delete, and residents of some other states have similar rights.
FreeRateUpdate doesn't pull your credit, and it doesn't ask for your Social Security number to show you rates. The lender you choose handles any credit check.
