Today’s Mortgage Rates Stable – 30-Year Fixed Mortgage Rate Today Still 4.875

By Ed Ferrara | October 19, 2009 at 2:08 pm |

Today’s 30 year fixed mortgage rates held steady once again just under 5 percent at par. The benchmark 10 year treasury yield, the best indicator for 30 year fixed mortgage rates, decreased slightly today to 3.4 down 0.0220 (-0.64%) overall. The yield has wavered the past few days since spiking up a week ago from 4 1/2 month lows. As a result mortgage rates have wavered as well. The 30 year fixed mortgage, at 4.875 percent at par, refuses to go above 5 percent with only borrowing costs changing slightly on a daily basis as a result RMBS price fluctuations too small to change interest rates but significant enough to change pricing (cost).
