Freddie Mac who’s been tracking average 30 year fixed mortgage rates since the seventies reported in their weekly survey that week an average 30 year fixed mortgage rate of 4.71%. Mortgage rates deteriorated slightly today on falling Mortgage Backed Securities prices and a weak 10 year treasury bond auction. Investor demand was weaker than normal as foreign investors purchased just 35% of the bonds at today’s auctions.
